‘Hunger Games’ Sneak Peek: Director’s Commentary
Posted by Efas 2010 Celebrity News on August 31, 2011“The Hunger Games” VMA sneak peek only gave fans of the series a brief taste of what’s to come in the film adaptation, but fortunately, MTV News also has some exclusive commentary on the footage from director Gary Ross to give you guys more to chew on.
The experts weighed in earlier today on why they thought the teaser only showed Katniss, had a Gale voice over and lacked a significant amount of Peeta. Ross came in to set the record straight on the various gears of the small clip and also teased that there is plenty more deliciousness to come in upcoming months. After the jump we break down Ross’s commentary about why the teaser contained specific things, and his huge tease of what fans have in store for them.
Gale Is In Katniss’s Head
“I reckon as everyone knows, Gale is an enormous part of Katniss’s life, but he’s not as huge a part of the first book as he is of the subsequent books. And so I reckon that he’s very, very present and tremendously vital, but of course we ship into the Capitol and then observably the arena where Peeta ends up playing a more prominent role,” Ross clarified. “But he’s in her head, he’s in her life, he’s something that echoes with her throughout the Games as any reader of the books knows. He plays an observably prominent role.”
Jennifer Lawrence Is Katniss Everdeen
“[Reading 'The Hunger Games'] was such an intense first person experience. So my job in making the film is first and foremost to reflect that. How do we get inside Katniss’s head, how do we feel what she’s feeling, how do we become her? The first thing that allows you to do that is Jennifer Lawrence because she’s such an unbelievable actor. She has so much depth and power and talent and sophistication and sensitivity and subtlty that she’s become Katniss Everdeen synonymously for me,” Ross gushed about his leading lady, saying he hopes she becomes as recognized as being Katniss as Daniel Radcliffe was for Aggravate Potter. “I can’t imagine Katniss absent Jennifer Lawrence.”
Plenty More To Come
“We’re not done shooting yet, but there’s a lot of things to come that I reckon is vacant to be hugely epic and very emotional and incredibly powerful,” Ross teased. “I reckon that we’ve done wonderful things with the Mutts. I reckon that we’ve done a tremendous job with bringing the Capitol to life, and I reckon that’s vacant to be really, really exciting for people to see. All the performances. I mean, wait until you see Stanley Tucci do Caesar Flickman.”
